Teeth-Whitening in Altamonte Springs, FL

Over time, teeth can become discolored due to tobacco use, long-term antibiotic use, and beverage stains. Discolored teeth can make a smile lose its youthful quality. Fortunately, modern teeth-whitening technology can improve the appearance of your smile by whitening and brightening your teeth. We offer ZOOM!® teeth-whitening technology. ZOOM!® is available for both in-office whitening treatment and take-home use. Our doctors have been treating satisfied patients in the central Florida area with this revolutionary tooth whitening system and achieving amazing results.

In-Office Teeth-Whitening

Teeth-whitening performed by one of our certified dental assistants is the most effective way to whiten teeth. ZOOM!® chair-side teeth-whitening technology involves applying a pH-balanced hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel to the teeth. Your gums, lips, and cheeks will be fully protected to avoid exposure to these sensitive tissues. The gel will then be activated by laser light directed at the teeth. During that time, the teeth whitening gel brightens teeth by many shades, and the entire process takes just two hours.

Take-home Teeth-Whitening

At LC&Z, we also offer customized take-home teeth-whitening trays as a cost-effective and convenient alternative to our in-office teeth-whitening system. Take-home teeth whitening trays are also helpful when you need to freshen in-office whitening results periodically.

Patients typically use the trays for approximately thirty minutes twice a day until the desired shade is achieved. Our take-home teeth whitening method allows patients the freedom to easily fit whitening into their schedule, no matter how busy.

More About Zoom Teeth Whitening

ZOOM! Teeth whitening is a teeth bleaching procedure that is used across the United States to lighten discolored teeth. Teeth may become discolored due to a variety of reasons including the use of antibiotics, such as tetracycline as a child or from the habitual drinking of tea, coffee, and colas. Smoking may also discolor your teeth. Teeth may also become darker due to age. The in-office ZOOM process uses a ZOOM chairside lamp that accelerates the process of bleaching. It activates the concentrated hydrogen peroxide (25% concentration) to increase the speed of bleaching. As hydrogen peroxide breaks down, oxygen enters the dentin and enamel to bleach the teeth while leaving them structurally unchanged.

Zoom Treatment Planning and Consultation

Prior to making a decision to try Zoom teeth whitening, one of our dentist will perform a complete examination of your oral cavity to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy and speak with you regarding your lifestyle and oral hygiene habits in order to determine if Zoom will benefit you.

In instances when you are planning additional cosmetic procedures like veneers, your dentist may recommend that you have a tooth whitening procedure in order to facilitate a better match between your natural teeth and the veneers. This will be individualized depending upon the condition of your existing teeth and your personal goals.

During this evaluation and consultation the dentist will also examine the dental work that is already present that will not be responsive to our whitening agents.

Whitening Procedure – ZOOM! In-Office

Habitual teeth cleaning will be recommended before the Zoom process is commenced. The entire process should take less than one hour. The process will start with a prep to cover your gums and lips, leaving only your teeth exposed. The whitening gel will then be applied to the teeth. The gel works in concert with the ZOOM light to enhance tooth penetration and to destroy discoloration and stains. The gel will be present on your teeth for fifteen minutes with the simultaneous use of the light.

The gel will be applied three times for a total of three fifteen minute sessions, making the entire treatment time approximately forty-five minutes. Some people that have a very sensitive gag reflex may have problems completing the entire process. Right after the procedure a fluoride paste is applied to reduce sensitivity. .

Zoom Aftercare

After the in-office treatment we will give you a touch-up kit for in home use. You will be given customized whitening trays. Follow the instructions our dentist will give you regarding their use. .

In order to maintain your bright new smile your dentist may ask you to avoid some types of foods and drinks in order to prevent new staining from occurring. Common things to avoid are coffee, tea, and smoking. .

Use of tobacco products such as cigars and cigarettes tends to stain teeth, even subsequent to a whitening procedure, so minimizing their use is advisable. Frequent brushing and flossing will also help to maintain your bright new smile, along with periodic visits to our dental hygienist for cleaning. Whitening containing toothpastes can also be helpful. .

Zoom Considerations

For a small proportion of patients, sensitivity can occur during treatment. Our Zoom light produces very little heat, so this is normally not a problem. Minor tingling may also be present subsequent to a procedure. An anti-sensitivity toothpaste can be used before a treatment to ameliorate this effect. .

Similar to most whitening products, Zoom is not advisable for patients less than thirteen years old, or for lactating or pregnant women. The efficacy of the whitening process is better for some patients than others. Your dentist will be able to determine if this process will be beneficial in your individual case. .

As with most cosmetic dental procedures, ZOOM! whitening is not normally covered by dental insurance. Consequently, the type of insurance you have will not impact the cost.
